Cancel Culture is Coming For Rapper Da Baby, Anti-Vaxxer’s, N Anyone with an Opinion. Totalitarianism is on the Rise | Fortify the City

It’s no secret that culture today feels increasingly polarized.

Conversations are sharper. Lines are more clearly drawn. And in many cases, the space for disagreement feels smaller than it once did.

There is a growing sense that stepping outside of accepted narratives—whether in entertainment, public health, or personal opinion—can come with consequences that extend beyond disagreement.

Social exclusion.
Public criticism.
And in many cases, cancellation.

That reality is shaping how people speak, what they choose to say, and whether they say anything at all.

The Rise of Cancel Culture

In this episode of Fortify the City, the focus turns to what has become widely known as “cancel culture.”

A phenomenon where individuals—public figures and everyday people alike—can be elevated one moment and dismissed the next, often based on how closely their views align with dominant cultural expectations.

Artists like DaBaby have experienced this shift publicly, where statements or actions quickly lead to widespread backlash and loss of platform or support.

But this conversation is not limited to celebrities.

It extends to anyone with an opinion that challenges prevailing narratives.

And that’s where the tension begins to deepen.

Accountability vs. Control

Accountability is necessary.

It creates space for correction, growth, and responsibility. It allows individuals to be held to a standard and to be challenged when they fall short.

But accountability and control are not the same.

And in a culture that moves quickly, the line between the two can become blurred.

At what point does correction become silencing?
At what point does disagreement become exclusion?
At what point does accountability shift into control?

These are not simple questions—but they are necessary ones.

Because without asking them, it becomes easy to accept whatever direction culture takes without examination.

The Power of Influence and Narrative

We are living in a time where influence is immediate.

Platforms amplify voices instantly. Narratives spread quickly. And public opinion can shift in a matter of hours.

That level of speed creates pressure.

Pressure to conform.
Pressure to agree.
Pressure to avoid saying anything that could be perceived as misaligned.

And while influence can be used to bring awareness and accountability, it can also be used to shape narratives in ways that limit perspective.

Because when only certain viewpoints are allowed to exist publicly, it narrows the scope of conversation.

And when conversation narrows, understanding does too.

Freedom and Responsibility

This is where the conversation becomes deeper.

Because freedom—true freedom—is not just about the ability to speak. It is also about the responsibility that comes with it.

In Scripture, God allows choice.

He does not force alignment. He does not remove free will. Even when choices lead to consequences, the ability to choose remains.

That model is important.

Because it shows that freedom and accountability can coexist without force.

There is space for decision.
There is space for consequence.
But there is also space for growth.

When Culture Moves Faster Than Understanding

One of the challenges of modern discourse is how quickly things move.

Reactions are immediate. Conclusions are formed quickly. And often, there is little time taken to fully understand what is being addressed.

That speed can lead to misinterpretation.

It can lead to decisions being made without context.
To people being labeled without clarity.
To situations being resolved without true understanding.

And over time, that pattern creates a culture that responds faster than it reflects.

Discernment in a Loud Environment

In a culture that is constantly speaking, discernment becomes essential.

Not everything that is amplified is accurate.
Not everything that is criticized is wrong.
Not everything that is accepted is right.

Discernment requires slowing down.

It requires evaluating what is being said, how it is being said, and whether it aligns with truth—not just with popularity.

Because without discernment, it becomes easy to be shaped by whatever voice is loudest at the moment.

A Call to Think Critically

This episode is not about defending every opinion.

It is about encouraging critical thought.

To question what is happening—not just react to it.
To understand the difference between accountability and control.
To recognize the role of influence in shaping perception.

Because in a time where narratives shift quickly, clarity is necessary.

Final Thought

Culture will continue to evolve.

Voices will continue to rise and fall.
Opinions will continue to be challenged.
And conversations will continue to shift.

But the responsibility remains the same.

To think critically.
To discern carefully.
And to stay grounded in truth.

Because when everything is moving quickly around you—
