Acknowledge Your God| Fortify the City
Podcast Episode
What does it say when you believe in God—but won’t acknowledge Him in the very moments, spaces, and conversations where your faith is supposed to be visible?
There are many who neglect to honor their God—not necessarily because they don’t believe, but because of what it might cost them socially, relationally, or culturally.
What will people think?
How will it affect how I’m seen?
Will it change how I’m received?
And so instead of acknowledging Him openly, consistently, and without hesitation… they stay quiet.
Faith becomes something internal, private, and carefully managed rather than something openly lived.
But Scripture challenges that posture directly.
Fear Has No Place in Love
1 John 4:18
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…”
This is not just a poetic statement—it is a spiritual principle.
If love for God is mature, grounded, and complete, then fear is not meant to dominate how that relationship is expressed.
Yet for many believers, fear still shapes expression more than love does.
Fear of rejection.
Fear of judgment.
Fear of being misunderstood.
Fear of being labeled.
And when fear leads, silence often follows.
But love, in its truest form, does not hide.
What It Looks Like to Hide Your Faith
Imagine a husband, wife, or significant other refusing to acknowledge their partner in public.
Not because the relationship is fake—but because of perception.
They still love them privately.
They still care.
They still maintain connection behind closed doors.
But publicly, they distance themselves.
That kind of dynamic would naturally raise questions.
Not just about behavior—but about authenticity.
So when we translate that into our relationship with God, the question becomes deeper.
What does it communicate when someone believes in God but consistently avoids acknowledging Him when it matters?
Boldness in the World vs Silence in Faith
We live in a world where boldness is often rewarded.
People are encouraged to speak openly about identity, opinions, convictions, preferences, and beliefs.
And in many cases, the more unapologetic someone is, the more influence they tend to gain.
Take Donald Trump as an example—regardless of personal agreement or disagreement, one thing is widely recognized: he does not hide what he believes.
He speaks directly. He stands firmly. He expresses conviction without constant filtering.
And that level of boldness, whether received positively or negatively, has impact.
So the tension becomes unavoidable:
Why is boldness acceptable—and even celebrated—in almost every area of life…
but when it comes to God, hesitation becomes common?
Why is silence more comfortable in faith than in everything else?
A Clear Warning We Can’t Ignore
Scripture does not present faith as something to be selectively expressed.
2 Timothy 2:12
“If we deny Him, He will also deny us.”
Take heed.
This is not about performance, pressure, or religious image management.
This is about alignment.
Alignment between belief and expression.
Alignment between conviction and lifestyle.
Alignment between private faith and public acknowledgment.
Faith was never meant to exist in compartments where God is acknowledged in one space and avoided in another.
A Call to Acknowledge God Without Fear
Acknowledging God is not limited to words spoken in church or private prayer.
It is reflected in how we live, what we stand on, and what we are willing to be associated with when it is not convenient.
It shows up in conversations.
It shows up in decisions.
It shows up in consistency when pressure rises.
This is what it means to be anchored in identity in Christ.
Not seasonal faith.
Not situational belief.
But a steady acknowledgment of God regardless of environment.
So the real question is not simply:
Do you believe in God?
But instead:
Are you acknowledging God—or avoiding Him when it matters?
