One of the clearest times I have ever heard the voice of God happened near the end of 2025.
It came during a dream.
The words were loud, unmistakable, and carried a weight that immediately woke me from sleep:
“Get your house in order.”
There was no confusion. No uncertainty. It was spoken with such authority and urgency that it felt impossible to ignore.
For weeks, I sat with those words.
Initially, I assumed God was speaking about my physical home. There were projects to complete, things to organize, responsibilities to address, and practical matters that needed attention. So I began there.
But over time, as I prayed and sought the Lord, I realized the instruction reached far beyond the walls of my home.
God was speaking to my life.
My priorities.
My family.
My spiritual condition.
My stewardship.
My preparation.
What began as organizing a house slowly became an overhaul of the heart.
A Biblical Phrase
The phrase “get your house in order” appears in Scripture.
The prophet Isaiah delivered this message to King Hezekiah:
“Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.” (Isaiah 38:1)
While the circumstances surrounding Hezekiah were unique, the principle remains deeply relevant.
God calls His people to live prepared.
Prepared spiritually.
Prepared practically.
Prepared emotionally.
Prepared eternally.
Throughout Scripture, God consistently warns His people before major events. Noah built the ark before the flood. Joseph stored grain before the famine. The wise virgins prepared their lamps before the bridegroom arrived.
Preparation has always been a biblical principle.
The House God Cares About Most
The older I grow in faith, the more I realize that God is often less concerned about our possessions than our condition.
Our homes may be clean while our hearts remain cluttered.
Our schedules may be full while our spirits remain empty.
Our finances may be organized while our priorities remain disordered.
Proverbs 24:3 says:
“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established.”
The “house” God is building includes our marriages, our children, our spiritual disciplines, our relationships, and our walk with Christ.
Peter writes:
“You yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house.” (1 Peter 2:5)
God is building something within us before He builds something through us.
Living in Uncertain Times
It is difficult to ignore the pace of change in our world.
Economic uncertainty continues to grow. Technology advances rapidly. Artificial intelligence reshapes industries. Digital financial systems continue to develop. Political division increases. Global conflicts persist.
Headlines often create fear.
Scripture calls believers to preparedness.
Jesus said:
“Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24:44)
Biblical preparation is not panic.
It is wisdom.
It means living intentionally.
It means managing our homes wisely.
It means reducing unnecessary distractions.
It means strengthening our faith.
It means teaching our children.
It means knowing God’s Word.
It means making sure our spiritual house is built upon Christ.
The Wise Builder
Jesus concluded the Sermon on the Mount with these words:
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24)
Storms eventually come.
Economic storms.
Personal storms.
Cultural storms.
Spiritual storms.
The question is not whether storms will arrive.
The question is whether our houses can withstand them.
The strength of a house is determined long before the storm arrives.
Prayer becomes the foundation.
Scripture becomes the framework.
Faith becomes the support.
Christ becomes the cornerstone.
What Getting Your House in Order Looks Like
Perhaps getting your house in order means reconciling a broken relationship.
Perhaps it means praying with your family.
Perhaps it means removing distractions.
Perhaps it means becoming financially responsible.
Perhaps it means opening your Bible again.
Perhaps it means finally obeying what God has already spoken.
Paul writes:
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time.” (Ephesians 5:15-16)
Time is a stewardship.
Life is a stewardship.
Our homes are a stewardship.
Our faith is a stewardship.
Final Thoughts
When God spoke those words in my dream, I thought He was talking about my house.
He was actually talking about my life.
The instruction was not rooted in fear.
It was rooted in preparation.
God has always prepared His people before significant seasons. He calls us to live awake, attentive, and anchored in His truth.
The world may continue changing.
Headlines will continue shifting.
New technologies will emerge.
Economic systems may evolve.
But the call remains the same:
Get your house in order.
Not because we fear tomorrow.
But because we trust the God who already holds it.
And when our lives are built upon Christ, we discover that the strongest house is not the one with the best walls, but the one with the firmest foundation.
